A 6 week bike program to teach children to ride their bike with or without training wheels to improve their overall balance and coordination. This will be run by two physiotherapists with knowledge in different childhood conditions and experience with teaching children how to ride their bike.
Children will learn the basics of riding a bike, starting from the bikes function to independent riding with or without training wheels. Children will undergo a cycling skills checklist and bike fitting. Children and families will be provided with practical guidance to continue to build on their bike riding skills at home.
This group is for children who:
Parents are required to participate.
Children, aged 5 and above, who struggle to ride a bike with or without training wheels, or need to improve their balance, coordination and general gross motor skills.
3.30-4.30pm every Friday starting week 2 of Term 1 2022 (Friday 4 February to Friday 11 March)
Session 1: Review of child’s bike skills and individual bikes. Learning basic bike skills on the ground (brakes, turning, starting/stopping, walking next to the bike)
Session 2: Sitting on the bike (scooting) focusing on balance and riding straight lines
Session 3: Learning how to peddle forward and independently
Session 4: Stopping / starting
Session 5: Targeted riding (weaving, turning)
Session 6: Graduation! Fun activities and bike program to continue at home
