As a not for profit community services organisation, we have been supporting people with disability for over 30 years. Staying true to our belief that everyone is someone in our community, we make every effort to ensure that those we support feel represented and empowered.
As part of this effort, the launch of our disability icon marks a symbolic and significant milestone. It’s a culmination of many months of consultation, collaboration and creative efforts and we are proud to share and display this icon as our very own trademarked asset.
The disability icon was designed as a symbolic representation of a broad spectrum of abilities, both seen and unseen. Each element of the icon holds meaning and represents an aspect of disability. Some of these elements include the shut eye, wheelchair, dotted lines and audio waves.
The below illustration explains in detail each of these elements to capture the breadth of abilities and conditions that make up the term ‘disability’.
You can also view the video below to further understand what the icon represents.
